Grass Spider - Hidden Hunter II

A Grass Spider (Agelenopsis spp.) perches on a bright green leaf, its eight legs poised and ready to spring. Its light brown body and dark bands across the legs are typical of this quick, ground-dwelling hunter. Characteristic large spinnerets and the fine hairs that cover its legs enhance its sensitivity to vibrations, helping it detect prey. Common across gardens and meadows in North America, this little predator weaves funnel-shaped webs where it can vanish in a blink.
